My Goal
I am a big fan of nature, especially wild animals. I also love a good adventure story, and I combine my two passions by writing and illustrating action-packed
stories that also teach something about nature. My goal is to introduce young children to a a life-long love of reading and learning. I think the most successful
way is to make it FUN!
My Background
I'm an elementary school teacher, and I've sketched and painted my whole life, just for fun. I had always used traditional paint, but when I started writing and
illustrating picture books, I learned digital painting. I never wanted to change my style, I just wanted to add efficiency in storing, making changes, and
sending to editors, publishers and printers.
I learned the intricate art of writing for children by attending numerous webinars, seminars, classes and conferences. I volunteered to read to kids in dozens
of classrooms and libraries, to learn what they like, and why. I joined the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators to meet and learn from other
authors, and I read award-winning children's books voraciously.
I hope you enjoy reading picture books as much as
I enjoy writing and illustrating them!
I've created a 14-page lesson plan for
teachers and homeschoolers to teach
the water cycle. This subject matter is
usually included in a 4th or 5th grade
public school curriculum. The guide
contains activities, games and puzzles,
group discussion topics and questions,
and a science experiment.
This is a great companion to my book
Agent H2O Rides the Water Cycle, but
the plan is free, no purchase
necessary. The science has been fact-
checked by an expert with a doctorate
degree in geophysics. It is compliant
with Common Core Literacy Standards
and Next Generation Science
Standards.
